Originally built by the Works Progress Administration as part of the New Deal in 1938, the Arletta Schoolhouse served as an elementary school until 1959. Since then, it has served as a community gathering place and been placed on the National Historic Register. PenMet Parks hired Driftmier Architects to remodel the facility and bring it back to life while accentuating all its original design. A side entrance was upgraded and a new parking lot added to meet ADA while the plumbing, HVAC and electrical systems were modernized and a new well installed. All interior and exterior wood was refinished and the main hallway, toilet rooms and kitchen were reconfigured. PenMet Parks now runs recreation activities for all ages and also rents the facility out for private events.
