PUD #1 of Clallam County has received the certificate of occupancy from Clallam County for their newly converted main central warehousing facility. The project involved remodeling a former Costco building, located at 100 Hooker Road in Sequim, into a PUD facility with more than 70,000 SF of indoor area on a 14 acre site.
The first phase of development for the site consolidates the PUD’s purchasing, materials handeling, warehouse and water department operations in one location closer to the center of the present and future customer base. In the future, the PUD plans to relocate its main administration offices to the vicinity of the new warehouse. Moving the purchasing, warehousing, and inventory from the Carlsborg Operations Center provides the opportunity for further relocation of other departments to the Carlsborg area. Construction began on August 14th, 2009 and reached Substantial Completion on January 22nd, 2010.
The PUD’s new site includes a five acre fenced and paved area which provides for the storage, laydown and loading of materials, in addition to the nearly two acres of interior space. The new site improvements were designed to respect the neighboring properties and Carlsborg business district while also making the best use of the site for the PUD’s current and future facility requirements. New landscaping and a welded steel fence around the perimeter of the new storage yard provide the PUD with security for their materials while also screening them from public view.
The remodel of the warehouse building involved exterior painting, signage, lighting and a complete remodel of the major engineering systems. It also included upgraded existing and new office spaces for the water department and warehouse staff and installation of a new racking system throughout the main storage area.
The design team was led by Driftmier Architects and included BHC Consultants LLC, Armour Unsderfer Engineering, Interface Engineering Inc. and Foresight Inc. Several of the team members assisted in conducting an existing facility site analysis on the former Costco warehouse building for the PUD prior to them purchasing the site. The consultant team and the PUD worked closely together to obtain a Conditional Use Permit, design the conversion and secure necessary building permits. Drury Construction was the general contractor for the conversion project.
